June 25 – Whitby – Day off
By Joe Barrett | June 25, 2012
After yesterday’s 12 hr run we decided to have a day to recover prior to leaving for Lowestoft tomorrow morning (Tuesday). It’s a 160nm / 30 hr sail so we want to be rested and provisioned. The plan is to leave at 07:00 Tuesday and to arrive Lowestoft on Wednesday afternoon. We have bolt holes of Scarborough and Grimsby on the way if needed.
Today was spent exploring Whitby. A real gem of a tourist town. A walk up to the old Abbey – a ruined Benedictine abbey overlooking the East Cliff above Whitby. The abbey was used in the Dracula story and we could see why.
More after we arrive in Lowestoft …

Another catchup session reading from the top of Scotland (nautical term!) to Whitby. A splendid adventure you are having. Enjoying the writing too.

Hi guys,
We are both enjoying your blog especially the photos, it’s the next best thing to actually being there with you.
You seem to be making very good time, long may it last.
The voyage of the dawntreader is becoming a bit of an epic!
Best wishes to you both.
