Day 2 – May 6th Yealm to Falmouth (44nm)
By Joe Barrett | May 7, 2012
After this easy first passage, and a good meal in the Ship Inn at Noss Mayo, the next day we made for Falmouth. We motored out of the river Yealm in light winds. The sails soon went up and the light south easterly wind behind, plus the tide in our favour, allowed us to sail almost all of the way into Falmouth harbour.
When we were halfway there the wind and the weather tried to tempt us to press on for Penzance but a check of the tides we would face around the Lizard soon put an end to that plan. This part of the journey is very familiar, being our normal cruising ground. Once we are around Lands End it's all new.
The night was spent in Mylor Marina on the River Fal. An unplanned dropped fender on the approach to Mylor allowed a bit of impromptu man overboard practice! Calmer conditions were needed for the passage around the Lizard and on to Penzance. The wind was up so we took a rest day to buy a few missing items and to do a final sort out of our stores.
