July 9 – Ramsgate day off

By | July 9, 2012

A day off in Ramsgate on Monday to rest and re-provision.

The Ramsgate harbour, just above the inner marina, has a number of interesting shops and business tucked away inside the former storage vaults which surround the harbour. As we explored we counted at least three ships chandlers, cafes, boat builders.

Above the harbour and looking out to sea is the Royal Temple Yacht club. The club is very well appointed and has the largest amout of silver trophies we have ever seen. The club serves an excellent pint of locally brewed Ramsgate bitter.

The evening was spent in Eddie Gilbert's, a fish restaurant, which was recommended to us by fellow 'round britainers', Bob and Jean, from Bella Rosa. It was a splendid meal and if you are visiting Ramsgate we highly recommended it.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) takes us to Eastbourne which lies 60 nm to the west of Ramsgate. More after we get there …
