May 31 – Plockton to Portree
By Joe Barrett | May 31, 2012
Last night we spent a very good evening ashore after showers and a meal in the Plockton Hotel. Good meal and good entertainment from a traditional Scottish band.
Met another boat Bella Rosa (Bob and Jean) – a Hallberg Rassy 37 – who are also doing the round Britain. They have been at it since April having seen far worse weather than we have. Exchanged blog and boat details and hope to see them again along the route.
Motored out of Plockton on Thurs morning in the last of the rain. The sun came out but no wind! Heading for Portree on the north east coast of Skye.
The last of the rain in Plockton
A very varied day followed. We motored for a few hours then sailed leisurely between the islands of Raasey and Skye in very light winds . This was accompanied by stunning views views of the Cuillins.
The Cuillins from Rassay Sound.
As we rounded the south end of Raasey there was 15 knots of wind on the nose. Finally a motor to windward into Portree harbour.
Portree from the visitors moorings
We are now tucked up in a corner of the harbour with a force 6 gusting over the top of then hill. Need to have a good look at the weather forecast tomorrow as its is predicted to be NE F6 and that's just where we planned to go!
