June 1 – Stuck in Portree
By Joe Barrett | June 1, 2012
We are still in Portree (Skye) with the wind blowing F6 from the north east – exactly where we want to go – and the sun shining. Having the sun shining when you are storm-bound is extremely frustrating as you are continually thinking that you should be out there!
Dawn Treader in Portree
After a morning doing boat jobs – Joe tried his hand at blanket stitch to repair the spray hood – we left the boat in search of showers.
The bad news is that the showers as stated in the pilot – the Harbour View restaurant – are no longer available. After asking at the tourist information we ended up at the local swimming pool. Ok, but you need to bring a swimming costume as they are communal showers.
As a result of need for a WiFi fix we can recommend the Isles Inn for a definitive haggis neaps and tatties. Later we dined on board to the strains of a local highland pipe band drifting across the harbour.
Tomorrow we plan to make our getaway to Loch Gairloch about 25 nm north. The forecast is for slightly lighter winds, F5 but still in the north east.
